By loading and unloading containers, gantry cranes play an important role. The big challenge at the automation of these cranes on the water side to an unmanned operation is the precise control of the load: especially sway and skew must be avoided with an accurate and reliable sway control. At the same time, the control system has to generate and process information about the surroundings of the machine, the distribution of the load and the position of individual containers. The iSAM® Sensor Suite delivers all this information in an easy-to-use package for efficient container handling.

The highlights of the iSAM solution

3D real-time laser scanner

for automatic determination of load position and attitude, sway and skew with 10 Hz update rate

Internal physical model

for smooth trajectory control of suspended loads

Control of the load movement

and scan of the entire environment with just one sensor

Easy integration

into existing control systems

The advantages of the system

iSAM® sensor technology enables a significant reduction in development costs and project risk by:
proven technology already in use in the world’s largest seaports
preprocessing of complex sensor data for use in conventional control systems
a fully modular system architecture
making certification easier by referring to already fully certified and operational installations

Efficient. Precise. Autonomous –
the rail crane from iSAM

With the world's first fully autonomous gantry crane for container handling between rail wagons and truck chassis, iSAM has reached another milestone in the company's history. For the first time, operators of intermodal terminals can run several gantry cranes autonomously in parallel and monitor them with just one operator in the central control room. Thanks to intelligent motion planning and adaptive control, the rail crane adapts flexibly to different handling scenarios while ensuring maximum safety and efficiency. The autonomous mode of operation not only reduces personnel and operating costs, but also minimises downtime and accident risks. iSAM is thus setting new standards in digital logistics: for a more economical, reliable and sustainable future in goods handling.
