The task of operating a grab ship unloader driverlessly and fully autonomously was long considered impossible. With the combination of a real-time 3D laser scanner, an industry-proven highly accurate GPS system for machine positioning and state-of-the-art control technology, we have successfully met this requirement. Four unloaders in Hamburg and Rotterdam and three unloaders in Malaysia are currently equipped with this technology, and further systems are currently being commissioned in Bahrain and Canada.
The highlights of the iSAM solution
Operation
All devices are operated from a central control station, i.e. minimal workload for the operator in the control station: true full automation instead of remote control.
Real-time determination
of the grab position
Autonomous unloading
even under the hatch coaming
Continuous updating
of data for the energy and position model for the grab‘s trajectory
