iSAM Delivers the Twentieth 3D Collision Protection System for Ship Loaders and Unloaders

News - 3D collision protection system for ship loaders

As the twentieth system worldwide, iSAM delivers another 3D collision protection system for ship loaders to Australia. This means that technology from Mülheim an der Ruhr protects 14 machines on the East and West Coasts of Australia alone.

While conventional ship loaders with simple sensor systems can often only stop critical movements when it is already too late, iSAM technology reliably detects even small objects – such as ropes stretched on deck – in advance and alerts the operator to potential dangers. At the same time, all affected movements are dynamically slowed down in order to stop before a collision occurs.

The system supports the operator with a virtual view of the machine and its surroundings, even during normal loading. This means that an optimal view on the loading situation is always possible from any perspective, regardless of the time of day, the weather or other environmental influences. Even at night, critical areas such as the distances between the loading telescope and the hatch edges can be viewed at any time during the whole loading – and this, including the automatic display of the remaining travel distances up to the automatic slowing down of the machine.

The following videos show an overview of the sensor technology and the machine as well as two typical collision scenarios.
